I remember hearing “Thinking Of You” for the first time about a month ago and realizing my musical tastes have changed quite dramatically over the years. In other words, if I would have heard this track back in my early twenties, I would not have given the track the time of day. Needless to say, I am very glad my musical pallet has evolved over time and I am now able to appreciate the unique beauty behind all kinds of music including “Thinking Of You” – a track by London-based six-piece THE NIGHT VI that is absolutely gorgeous.
The first thing I notice when I listen to “Thinking Of You” is how incredibly crisp and clean the overall sound is throughout. The guitar strums and jangles nicely carve out their own special place among the subtle infusions of keyboard and percussion accents, producing a layer of sound that is surprisingly soothing for a track with unhappy undertones. The lead vocals are delicately powerful but filled with an air of vulnerable that throws contrasting emotions all around me. On one hand, I feel the reflective sadness inherently prevalent in the song but at the same time, I hear this quiet confidence that is bubbling underneath the surface trying to break free. Something only a push from time can ultimately help do.
THE NIGHT VI has created a track which artificially plays on the edges of a common experience yet makes out like a short film I can’t take my eyes or ears away from. It’s riveting, suspenseful and pleasing to hear. And the music video for the track is just as enjoyable!
