Sleater-Kinney ~ Surface Envy

Sleater-Kinney-No-Cities-To-LoveWho is SLEATER-KINNEY?  Rock trio consisting of guitarists/vocalists Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, and drummer Janet Weiss.

My first impression of “Surface Envy” :  A relentless and high energy rock-out track reminiscent of a different time but with a modern-day edge!

My take : “Surface Envy” steps on the gas pedal and never lets up. Driving guitar rifts and head pounding drums push the track along with an underground intensity worthy of some of the best  classic punk bands I wish I was more into when I was younger.  Couple this with some amazingly powerful, in my face vocals and “Surface Envy” is nothing short of a three-minute rock and roll thrill ride.  And I love every minute of it.

“Surface Envy” marks the triumphant return of SLEATER-KINNEY, a major force in the punk rock scene of the mid 90’s and early 2000s.  And with a brand new album ‘No Cities To Love’ set to drop sometime in 2015, the reemergence of one of the great female rock trios of all time is sure to turn some heads.  Now that’s a great reason to look forward to next year!

TMH RATING: 8.2/10 Amazing

Born in sunny San Diego and raised in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois @Urbana-Champaign and spent the better part of 10 years in sunny Phoenix Arizona after graduation. I now reside in Savoy IL and I try to make it up to the Chicago music scene as much as I can. Music has always been a part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
