I have to admit I am not too keen on recognizing music coming out of Finland but if “Campfire” by SATELLITE STORIES is any indication, I have definitely been missing out. “Campfire” opens up with a spine tingling opening sequence accentuated by one of the most interesting and gradual builds I have heard in a long time. It’s like being slowly lifted off the ground by invisible hands and knowing I am going to be dropped at any moment. And when that time comes, a gorgeously lush chorus of guitar riffs and rhythms greet me, and awaken all of my senses. There are nice changes in tempo throughout the song that remind me a bit of Two Door Cinema Club at times and Bombay Bicycle Club in others. And the lead vocals fill up a room with enough energy and passion I can see stirring up a live crowd quite easily. SATELLITE STORIES toe the line of indie pop and rock to perfection with “Campfire” and deliver a simple story of young love that is both heartfelt and believable. I am now anxious to hear the rest of ‘Pine Trails’, their 2nd studio album due out on November 1st. It sounds like it might be a great one!
