I belong to an online world where there is a constant race to discover the next great artist or to unearth the newest rising star before anyone else; but sometimes just slowing down to appreciate an amazing song and forgetting about the chase is just what I should do more of. Australian newcomer RY X burst on the scene a few months ago with the release of his debut single “Berlin” and the response has been staggering. And for good reason. RY X strips down and throws away all the excess gimmicky elements so common in today’s music and delivers a beautifully captivating track that is incredibly powerful yet stunningly simple. There is an intimacy in the vocals I can easily relate to and I feel like I am experiencing the ebbs and flows of emotion behind the lyrics right with them. “Berlin” packs a potently relaxing punch in a surprisingly short amount of time. And even though the song seems to end far too prematurely for my tastes, I am fully engrossed the whole time. Now that’s entering Bon Iver and Ben Howard company for me which is truly impressive.
RY X has recently released “Vampires”, the second track from his upcoming ‘Berlin’ EP due out on August 28th via the newly formed Swedish record label Dumont Dumont. And even though I am anxious to hear all the new music on that debut offering, I think I will just sit back and enjoy this fantastic single just a little while longer!
