I first heard of RIVER TIBER about a month ago on the Field Trip presents discovery series and I have played the amazing track “Atlantis” ever since. I love experiencing what sounds like a melodious battle of rhythms and textures. As perfectly harmonized guitar strums push up against the forceful and almost frenetic thumps of incredibly intoxicating cadence-like drum taps. The vocals are just light enough to beautifully blend right into a wall of sound that’s both lush and vibrant. Walking the line of brisk intensity and hasty moodiness with every single note played. There are moments during the song where RIVER TIBER reminds me of The Temper Trap in certain ways but they don’t stay there too long for it to be distracting. “Atlantis” ultimately has an imaginative and intriguing vibe to it. And just like the title of the track suggests, the mysteriousness comes across in the best kind of way.
Twenty-something Tommy Paxton-Beesley is the talented artist behind RIVER TIBER and the skilled multi-instrumentalist from Toronto has all the makings of breaking out in a big way. But only time will tell. And as far as I am concerned, “Atlantis” seems to be only the beginning!
