It seems like every track I hear from PLOY over the past year has reeled me in just a little bit more than the previous one. I first heard of the DC-based duo when I came across their well received track “Gold” and I remember thinking these guys have something great here. They came out with “Elevator Talk” about a month later and I enjoyed the subtle changes they made to their sound. Then a few days ago, their latest tune “XIX” became available and I have to say it’s the best PLOY song to date in my opinion.
There is a lot to like about “XIX” but the ultra smooth and laid-back vibe of the whole track jumps out and hits me like a cool breeze on a hot summer’s day. The vocals gently push the nostalgic lyrics around my head inducing visions of happy memories and feelings of young love. The synth work is fantastic and I love how all the different elements tip toe in and around the heartbeat of the track. “XIX” raises the bar for Justin Victoria and Gil Wojcik, but if their recent track history is any indication the best of PLOY is yet to come!
