There are those certain songs that get stuck in my head and then there are others I don’t ever want to end. “Simplethings” by LA-based artist PENN ALEXANDER definitely leaves me longing for more. And a lot more if I am completely honest. “Simplethings” is built on a the type of sound I find myself completely drawn to. The beautifully soulful vocals wooing and purring on top of a mind-bending synth rhythm I just can’t get enough of. Can it really get any better than that! Just as the track title suggests, there is not a lot of complexity to the song but the production is spot on incredible. It’s an absolutely great cover of a Miguel song that is extremely difficult to improve upon in my opinion.
PENN ALEXANDER is the solo project of California singer-songwriter Lexie Papilion and her sound and take on music will be interesting to learn more about. If her “Simplethings” cover is any indication, I think I will truly enjoy what I am about to experience. Be on the lookout for her ‘People Like Us’ debut EP due out soon!
