PALACE is a band from London with an alternative bluesy rock sound that’s fun to listen to. And even though their latest track “Bitter” leans more towards upset than upbeat, it’s still very enjoyable to take in. I absolutely love the change in tempos throughout the song jumping around in what seem like just the right places. Pulling and dragging my ear and the mood in all sorts of different directions along the way. The vocals are big, bold and powerful showing the kind of meaningful angst I can feel down to my core. I like hearing the play on words like in the line “I’ve played heartstrings before, but not in your key”. As the instrumentals swell and retract, I can sense the apprehension, the uneasiness and a lot of resentment in the lyrics but there is a hint of optimism under the surface that makes me think everything just might be okay in the end. And those guitar sequences. They are rich, fluid and simply phenomenal. “Bitter” follows a successful release of their song “Veins” and proves PALACE is headed in the right direction. While picking up their debut EP ‘Lost In The Night’ here, check out the great video for “Bitter” as it visualizes the essence of this track in a very interesting way!
