There is another talented music producer poised to make huge waves this year in the revitalized future garage scene and it’s only fitting that he is from Australia. Mikey Perry, musically known as PACES, recently released his debut The Pact EP and the title track ranks as one of my favorite future bass tracks I have heard all year. Gearing up for a local tour to promote his debut, PACES has dropped “Leave” on the world, a new original tune that I simply can’t get enough of.
“Leave” jumps off with a unique combination of sounds pairing some thinly sliced up vocals with the underappreciated musical prowess of the almighty ukulele. Who would have known this could sound so good. Add on some neatly cut up and stripped down vocals on top of a hard-hitting 808 bass groove and the result is a massively fun tune to listen to. It’s the type of song with the style and beauty to turn ears its way and I can easily see myself jamming to this track at a live show. “Leave” ultimately leaves me with a fresh new idea of what a great future garage track can sound like. Keep an eye on the name PACES moving forward. I expect to see bigger waves soon!
