“Betwixt” by OMN, otherwise known by the name Ollie McKendrick -Ness, is absolutely brilliant. Straight and to the point. I have never been more captivated by a song made up of just five words (well not counting a few incomprehensible mumbles around the 3 minute mark) in my life until now. I never really thought it could happen. But here I am listening to the lyrics “I don’t think I can”, repeatedly being thrown at me and I am completely entertained. At the most climatic moment, there is a friendly game being played between a dark and heavy muffled side against a high-pitched and almost child-like side. And it results in perfect aural harmony. The pacing of the track is incredible. It’s deliberate and beautifully controlled as each layer of sound slowly drops on top of the previous one like one piece of paper onto another. I feel bursts of emotion with each ebb and flow throughout “Betwixt” which constantly changes from one moment to the next. The way all the different elements are creatively brought together shows the 18-year old Birmingham producer understands music as an art form. At least he should realize that he does. “Betwixt” is an amazing track and shows OMN has an immense amount of musical potential. I look forward to hearing more!
