I tend to fight with bouts of writing motivation when it comes to reviewing music but when I hear a song I enjoy it becomes rather easy to put my thoughts on paper so to speak. I realized the other day I haven’t listened to much drum and bass music lately and I didn’t really know why. Thinking back through the enormous amount of music I go through each day, I remembered hearing a song by Dutch hip hop artist Mr. Probz that struck a chord with me because it was not hip hop at all. It was an alternative track I thought could be redone into a great sounding house or DnB track. Then last week, I came across SEKTOR’s rework of that same phenomenal Mr Probz’s track “Waves”, and my earlier inclinations became a fantastic reality. The bootleg version pumps a little pep into the song while nicely keeping the beautiful melodic elements, like the harmonic guitar strumming and the soulful vocals, that made the original so moving. It hits hard enough in places to get a crowd jumping around on the dance floor but keeps a classic drum and bass flow that sounds silky smooth through my headphones. “Waves” is a solid remix by the music producer from the Netherlands and the new version has renewed my love for drum and bass tunes I seem to have lost along the way. I definitely look forward to hearing more tracks with the name SEKTOR attached to them!
