Michele Ducci and Alessandro Degli Angioli are the Italian/European duo M+A (they list London, Bologna, Bergen as their hometowns), and their latest single “When” is all kinds of catchy. The song starts out with a deep house kind of vibe, which is cool all by itself, but quickly bursts into a more uptempo style that instantly puts me in a good mood. The lavish layers of sound are filled with easy-going ivory key melodies, looping synth harmonies and perfectly placed record scratch accents that sound ridiculously good on my ears. The vocals seem exuberantly subdued keeping in line with the tone of the rest of the music, delivering lyrics in an interestingly modest and almost whisper-like kind of way. Throw in a brief surprise rap breakdown by music producer EMAY (at least it sounds like him), and all the unique elements of sound come together nicely. “When” is one of those tailor-made tracks that makes me feel good just by listening to it. I look forward to hearing the rest of M+A’s next album THESE DAYS, when it drops on September 30th. Check out their official album preview video below to get a little taste!
