Kins ~ Post Tropical Storm!

Brighton-based band KINS recently released their self titled debut album and after listening to it thoroughly, I can now declare myself a fan.  There are a lot of solid tracks on the album showcasing quite a diverse collection of sounds but the song that resonates most with me is “Post Tropical Storm”.  From the start I am hit with smoothly frenetic guitar riffs reminiscent of Foals, one of my favorite bands,  which is always a fantastic way to start out in my book.  On one hand, there are swirling guitar strum rhythms floating around as if they are dancing on air and the pounding drums beat like a steady heartbeat keeping the song moving along nicely.  On the other hand, the soft vocals seem to wander aimlessly blending in with the music a little too closely and at times I feel they get drowned out a bit.  But I sense they would standout quite well during a live show.  As the song winds down, I completely love how the KINS  melodically jam out instrumentally to close out the song and ending the track in a truly memorable way.  It leaves me feeling musically satisfied in the end.   “Post Tropical Storm” is a great track and is part of what I feel is a fantastic debut album.  Have a listen to some handpicked tracks off the album and make time to listen to it in full on the KINS’ Soundcloud page linked below!  It’s a good one!

Born in sunny San Diego and raised in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois @Urbana-Champaign and spent the better part of 10 years in sunny Phoenix Arizona after graduation. I now reside in Savoy IL and I try to make it up to the Chicago music scene as much as I can. Music has always been a part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
