James Bay ~ Hold Back The River!

James Bay Hold Back the River Artwork!

There are very few singer-songwriters that demand my attention from the beginning.  Where the music takes a hold of me and never ceases control.  Carrying me through intimate melodies, impeccable instrumentation and indescribable vocals.  But JAMES BAY has done just that with his latest offering “Hold Back The River”.  And it’s an incredible experience more people should engross themselves in.

“Hold Back The River” starts with a delicate guitar strum that entices my senses.  Grabbing and pulling me to the edge of my seat anticipating what I might hear next. Add in Bay’s intriguing vocal, akin to a soothingly more soulful James Blunt, some soft drum taps that increase with intensity and vigor and a nice bass groove that opens up into a catchy wall of heady sound that’s beautifully pleasing to my ears.  I like how the energy seems to continuously build throughout the track laying one gorgeous element on top of another.  With huge chorus sections that invigorate me to the point I can almost hear the massive chant of a festival crowd somewhere off in the near future.  Simply put, “Hold Back The River” evokes more in me than just hearing a guy play a song about a special person he wants in his life.  It pushes me to feel the same up and down emotions and to live through a certain moment in time like it’s my very own.  Only the best ones do that!

The future is bright for JAMES BAY, an extremely talented artist from Hitchin, UK and I will be eagerly following his journey.  Do yourself a favor and pick up the fantastic ‘Hold Back The River’ EP here!

Born in sunny San Diego and raised in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois @Urbana-Champaign and spent the better part of 10 years in sunny Phoenix Arizona after graduation. I now reside in Savoy IL and I try to make it up to the Chicago music scene as much as I can. Music has always been a part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
