I first heard of JAKWOB a few years ago amidst the growing mainstream popularity of dubstep music and I remember thinking his remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Starry Eyed” was actually better than the original. As the dubstep genre morphed into a cesspool of similar sounding drivel, it’s been fun to hear JAKWOB grow as a producer away from this scene and towards an electronic music style that keeps you guessing. A perfect example of this continuous evolution is the track “Fade” off of his upcoming EP release and the tune is nothing short of stunning.
“Fade” features the gorgeous vocals of MAIDAY, an artist I haven’t heard of until this song. Her voice commands your undivided attention from the very beginning and she delivers sad lyrics through a powerfully intoxicating performance. A steady drum rhythm highlights a nice energy around the uptempo parts of the track and when you add the piano expressions into the picture, the overall layers of sound are incredible. “Fade” is a beautiful song that foreshadows great music is yet to come. I look forward to guessing what’s next!
