GAPS ~ Inside Your Head!

Sometimes I just want to pack my bags and move to England because the amount of fantastic music coming from the local scene there never ceases to amaze me.  The latest duo to entice this internal desire is GAPS, an interesting duo from Brighton consisting of members Rachel and Ed.  There is not a whole lot of information floating around about the UK pair but their musical creations speak volumes about how talented they truly are.  Combining engaging electronic experimentation with soothing vocals and gorgeous live instrumentation sets them apart.  Their track “Inside Your Head” puts the best of what GAPS has to offer on full display.

The opening sequence to “Inside Your Head” is like nothing I have ever heard before.  I love how the wavy synths flutter on top and around the heavy driving bassline.  The vocals (I am assuming is courtesy of Rachel) are beautifully entrancing adding another layer of sound that pushes the track to a whole new level.  The steady guitar strumming, at various points throughout, serves as a nice embellishing touch underneath the song gently pushing the tempo during those moments at just the right speed.  “Inside Your Head” is a purely intoxicating track that did get stuck in my head.  It’s not like I really had a choice though!

GAPS look to leave their initial mark on the music world with a few live dates coming up in the next few months.  Check them out at Shacklewell Arms (April 17th) and at Birthdays (April 22nd) if you are lucky enough to get the chance.

Born in sunny San Diego and raised in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois @Urbana-Champaign and spent the better part of 10 years in sunny Phoenix Arizona after graduation. I now reside in Savoy IL and I try to make it up to the Chicago music scene as much as I can. Music has always been a part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
