EP Review! Y LUV ~ It Doesn’t Have To Make Sense!

I first heard of Y LUV earlier this year when their song “Never Touch The Ground” was remixed by the talented electronic music producer Gazzo.  The rework quickly gained popularity around house music circles but there was always something intriguing about Y Luv that kept me on the lookout for new releases.   On October 1st that moment was realized with the introduction of the ‘It Doesn’t Have To Make Sense’ EP.

The first single “Driftin” is an amazing tune and in my opinion is the best track Y LUV has produced to date.  An alluring piano/keyboard intro sets the tone for the song and elegantly tiptoes around clean guitar layering and steady intermittent drum elements.  “Driftin” is undeniably catchy and definitely deserves repeat plays.

The rest of the EP shows promise and the growth in terms of musicality from previous releases is on full display.  There are vocal sections throughout “If This Has An End” that are reminiscent of “Never Touch The Ground”, which to me shows a developing identifiable sound.  Overall, “It Doesn’t Have To Make Sense” is an enjoyable EP worthy of at least a full go around.  If you like concerts or music festivals you should check out the main stage at the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans on October 26th.   You will get your Y LUV fill there!!!

Born in sunny San Diego and raised in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois @Urbana-Champaign and spent the better part of 10 years in sunny Phoenix Arizona after graduation. I now reside in Savoy IL and I try to make it up to the Chicago music scene as much as I can. Music has always been a part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
