I have yet to hear a DOUGLAS DARE song lacking emotion and his latest release “Swim” is overflowing with it. Built upon an ear-pleasing piano jaunt, the London-based singer-songwriter cleverly constructs and delivers a musical feast of push and pull angst I can easily relate to. The intense pounding of the keys resemble the fast beating of my heart I remember feeling far too often in my younger days. Where I can still picture myself standing perfectly still, staring face to face with uncertainty and trying to decide which direction I should go. And the answer never comes easily. In a way, “Swim” feels like a suspenseful coming of age short film. As the hauntingly bold vocals build an audible story from a personal place that seems so much like my own. And when the intriguing sounds and the magnetizing style of “Swim” come to an intense climactic end, I am sitting here wanting to know how my story really ends!
“Swim” is the second single from ‘Whelm’, the debut album by the talented DOUGLAS DARE due out on May 12th. And if this track is any early indication, the album will be filled with incredible electronic textures, beautiful piano layers and an insane amount of emotion. Here’s to hoping anyway!
