When I listen to “Will You” by Michigan newcomer DANIEL WILSON, many words come to mind. Powerful. Emotional. Intense. Beautiful. To name just a few. Like a musical sheep in wolf’s clothing, “Will You” may seem like a song about being vulnerable and weak on the surface in regards to reciprocating love, but it is so much more. Just like a caterpillar metamorphosing into a butterfly, it’s a song that transforms right in front of my ears as it goes along. I can sense the uncertainty change into feelings of empowerment as the realization comes to fruition that enough is enough. To me, it’s about letting go of a grand idea that just might not happen and being able to say out loud that everything will be just fine either way. No matter how hard that might be. Even though the track seems way too short in terms of length, I think there is more than enough time to really get fully invested in all the subtle intricacies echoing across the track. In essence, “Will You” is a rousing song propelled by an outstanding vocal performance by DANIEL WILSON and is a great introduction to an artist I believe will turn a lot of heads in 2014. Look for a debut EP set to be released sometime in the next few months on Zap Records!
