It’s been way too long since I posted a review and what better way to get back into the swing of things than with the latest two tracks from North London four-piece ATTU. The first song, “Hibernate”, is the 3rd release from the upstart foursome and showcases a blend of musical styles I find irresistibly intriguing. I love the power and energy behind each element of sound as they seem to build on top of each other perfectly. From the first heavy thump and the sprawling synth harmonies, to what feels like reigned in vocals on the edge of busting out, “Hibernate” starts fast, picks up steam and never slows down. And even though it may have a mainstream type of vibe to it unlike their amazing first single “Don’t Sleep”, it is unique enough to keep me wanting more. And that is always a good thing.
The next track, “We Are Ordinary People”, is by far my favorite ATTU production to date and it is the title track of a noteworthy debut EP. The opening sequence is all sorts of all-encompassing, slowly pulling me towards something I can feel is rather grand just around the next corner. Or maybe the next. Only to explode into a big melodious wall of pounding drums, purposeful trumpets and melodious vocals. Simply put, “We Are Ordinary People” is absolutely phenomenal and is one of the most unique songs I have listened to in quite some time. And I can’t wait to hear more!
ATTU is Stefan Antoinette (guitar/vocals), Michelle Antoinette (bass/vocals/synths), Chike Newman (samples/vocals) and Timothy Earl (guitar/synths). Pick up their debut “We Are Ordinary People” EP on Beatnik Creative here!!!
