Just when I think I have heard my favorite song of the year another one climbs into the picture. “Carter” by London outfit ARTHUR BEATRICE is the latest track to jump up to the top of my list and I can’t stop listening to it. I have literally been playing it over and over for the past hour because it sounds absolutely amazing. Even though the 4-piece band released the song only a few days ago, the fast growing buzz being generated by my peers is completely warranted. There is no denying that on the surface, “Carter” comes across as a very catchy tune. And very addicting I might add. Yet, after peeling back some of the layers, it’s easy to hear a very polished and refined sound that nicely stays clear from feeling overly stuffy. The vocals are soothingly cunning and elegantly beautiful but have an underlying strength that powers the emotion behind the lyrics all the way through my body. The drums are gorgeously controlled and scaled back working perfectly in tune with the ebbs of flows of competing piano driven expressions. With “Carter”, ARTHUR BEATRICE show that striving for musical perfection can result in creating great sounding music. Other bands can only hope to be so lucky!
“Carter” is the titled track to an EP set to be released in July. I will be eagerly awaiting its arrival!
